Description

Sold by the Ingot.

An ingot of Roto174F will average approximately 1 pound and melts at approximately 174 degrees F. The ingot measures approximately 2" top diameter, 2.5" bottom diameter, and is 1/2" thick.

This alloy is  approximately 57% bismuth, 17% tin, 26% Indium +/- 1%

Roto174F
Fusible Alloy is the lead and cadmium free alternative to Roto158F and can be used to anchor bushings in drill jigs, internal or external support of delicate parts for machining, cores for spinning, fusible mandrels in filament winding, fiberglass lamination, drop hammer and embossing dies, tube bending filler (up to 1 3/4" diameter), as a heat transfer medium in processing plastics, chemicals, etc. (up to 255 Degrees F), and shielding blocks for nuclear medicine.

Roto174F is a lead and cadmium free alternative to Wood's metal, named for American metallurgist B. Wood, is also known as Lipowitz's alloy or by the commercial names cerrobend, bendalloy or pewtalloy

 HORN making

I've tested your 174F alloy and it works fine for bending. I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a non-toxic alternative to the 158F. It requires more leverage to bend, but other than that it works fine. It also doesn't expand the thin wall brass tube by 004 - .005" like the old Cerrobend (158F) does, so I'm quite happy with it, and I'm spreading the word to other horn makers.
