Field’s Metal (also known as Field’s Alloy) is a high‑performance low‑melting fusible alloy designed for applications requiring precise thermal control and safe handling. Named after Simon Quellen Field, this alloy transitions cleanly from solid to liquid at approximately 62 °C (144 °F), making it ideal for low‑temperature casting, thermal fuses, prototyping, mold making, and scientific demonstrations.
This eutectic alloy contains 32.5% Bismuth, 51% Indium, and 16.5% Tin, giving it a sharp, predictable melting point and excellent fluidity when molten. Because it contains no lead or cadmium, Field’s Metal is a non‑toxic alternative to Wood’s Metal, offering similar performance without hazardous materials.
With a density of approximately 7.9 g/cm³, Field’s Metal provides a substantial feel and reliable mass‑to‑volume consistency for precision casting and engineering calculations.
