Gallium is Atomic Element No. 31 on the periodic table of elements. One of gallium's most interesting properties is it's low melting point, just 86 degrees Fahrenheit. It remains a liquid over a wider temperature range than any other element, only coming to a boil at 4357 degrees Fahrenheit! Once a liquid, gallium holds thermal energy very well and is slow to return to a solid state after room temperature has dropped below 86 degrees. The wide liquid state range of gallium makes it a good medium for high temperature thermometers. Other uses include mirror coatings and as a component of low melting point alloys and solders.
