The most effective spots are the lower legs and the cradle beams, placed within about a foot or two of the metal you want to protect. The connection must be clean, with paint and rust removed so the zinc has solid metal‑to‑metal contact. Keep the anodes fully underwater year‑round, and use at least two so protection stays even across the lift.
