Description

Black Magic Patina comes in either an 8 ounce or 1 gallon bottle. This popular patina for zinc makes sheets instantly darker and helps to give your zinc that desired aged look in what has been described as a leathery brown. Please note that the color and texture may vary greatly depending on different factors, such as solution concentration, brush strokes and method of application. Depending on how concentrated you make your solution, we generally recommend one bottle of Black Magic Patina per 2-3 sheets. In order to determine how concentrated you want your patina and how you would like to apply it, we encourage you to order some extra zinc on which to practice your application techniques.

This patina can be applied with a variety of methods and concentrations. To apply the patina to your zinc, first clean the surface with denatured alcohol or acetone to insure that it is free of oil, oxides, and plating residue as these will greatly affect the patina. When using this patina, we recommend diluting the concentrated patina to get a wider range of colors. To dilute the solution, add distilled water (up to 80% water/20% patina) until you receive the desired concentration. You may then apply the patina by using spray bottles, brushes, or sponges or by burnishing the zinc with an abrasive pad. Once you have achieved the desired finish, you should seal your zinc with one of our sealants.

Would you like to see an example of our natural zinc after we have treated it with our Magic Black Patina Solution? Please order one of our Zinc Sheet Sample Packs and in 1-3 days you will receive a variety pack of all of our sizes of zinc and our patinas.

Please go to our video page for helpful ideas on how apply patina.

I’ll tell you what....if you have zinc hardware and screws (even aluminum, I think) that you want to look smoky anodized and aged, buy this stuff. Easy to mix 25 to 1 with water, no smell, no skin irritations (but use gloves) and works INSTANTLY!!! Don’t understand the “brown leather’ reference since it turns zinc smoky-to-black. But love the results as opposed to just painting. This changes the composition on the metal surface. Won’t scratch off. Highly recommend!!!

    Patina Solutions

I ordered all three solutions to test out for a fireplace idea I had: Black Magic, Cupric Sulfate Gray to Black on Zinc and Iridescent Bronze. The solutions were easy to use from a spray bottle. I liked black magic the best and will use it on a fireplace surround to give it an old firebox look.
